The Market Pressure

Useful plant data is locked inside PLCs, machines and legacy SCADA.

Industrial buyers are not asking for another control system — they need a clean, secure data layer between OT and IT. WP500 is positioned exactly there.
OT

Trapped data

Meters, PLCs, machines and HMIs hold the data — but it never reaches analytics, ERP or the cloud.

9+

Protocol fragmentation

Modbus, OPC UA, BACnet, PROFINET, IEC 61850, DNP3 — every asset speaks a different dialect.

IT

OT / IT disconnect

Separate teams, separate networks, no clean pipeline between control and business systems.

CY

Cyber exposure

Connecting plant to cloud without IEC 62443-aligned engineering is no longer acceptable.

Where WP500 Fits

One secure edge node between every field asset and every IT system.

WP500 ingests data from PLCs, CNCs, machines, meters, sensors, analyzers, compressors and pumps — and forwards it to SCADA, ADVAIT, TASM2M, historian, cloud, ERP and CMMS over standard protocols, with security applied at the boundary.
WP500 edge RTU architecture diagram: OT field assets including PLC, CNC, machine, meter, sensor, analyzer, compressor and pump connect through WP500 which provides local logic, protocol conversion, buffering and security, and forwards data to SCADA, ADVAIT, TASM2M, historian, cloud, ERP and CMMS
Applications

Built for the full OT-to-IT data pipeline.

One hardware platform, configured per use case — from a single machine to a multi-plant brownfield modernization programme.

Local data acquisition

Poll PLCs, meters, sensors and analyzers at the asset — clean, time-stamped, normalized data at the edge.

Protocol conversion

Bridge Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, MQTT, IEC 61850, IEC 104, PROFIBUS, PROFINET and BACnet on one device.

OT-to-IT gateway

A clean boundary node — field bus stays south, ERP and cloud stay north, WP500 controls the crossing.

SCADA & cloud integration

Forward data northbound over OPC UA, MQTT/TLS or HTTPS to SCADA, historian and cloud platforms.

Machine / OEM connectivity

Standardized edge package for OEMs — one firmware, one configuration model across machine fleets.

Condition monitoring gateway

Vibration, temperature, current, run-hours forwarded to condition-monitoring & CMMS workflows.

Remote monitoring

Edge polling and store-and-forward keep remote-site telemetry alive even when WAN links degrade.

Brownfield modernization

Add a secure data layer without replacing existing PLCs, SCADA or DCS — a non-disruptive upgrade path.

Industrial IoT collection

Edge-side IIoT data collection from sensors, gateways and OEM equipment into one outbound stream.

Edge analytics enablement

Run rules, thresholds and pre-processing at the gateway — only meaningful data leaves the plant.

Secure MQTT broker pattern

Northbound MQTT/TLS to private or public broker — fleet-friendly, scalable, and cyber-aware by design.

Asset performance data pipeline

A consistent feed of asset KPIs into ADVAIT, TASM2M, historian and CMMS — analytics-ready by default.

Pain Point vs WP500 Response

The buyer problem, mapped to a concrete capability.

Every row maps a real OT-to-IT pain point to how WP500 is positioned to respond as an edge-enabled industrial RTU.
Pain Point
WP500 Response
Data trapped inside PLCs, meters, machines and local HMIs.
Edge polling on Modbus / OPC UA / PROFINET / BACnet / IEC 61850 — data normalized at the gateway and pushed north.
Legacy protocols blocking modern analytics.
Multi-protocol stack converts south-side dialects to OPC UA, MQTT or HTTPS for analytics platforms.
Separate OT and IT systems with no clean data pipeline.
WP500 acts as the boundary node — segmented, zone-based, with policy applied per port.
Cybersecurity concern while connecting plant data to cloud.
SE050 secure element, secure boot, TLS, firewall and IPS — engineered to IEC 62443-4-2.
High latency or unreliable WAN dependence.
Local edge processing + store-and-forward — survive link drops, forward on reconnect.
Manual data collection for reports and maintenance.
Continuous, time-stamped telemetry into ADVAIT, TASM2M, historian and CMMS — no spreadsheets in the loop.
Need for local processing near the asset.
Linux edge compute on the gateway — rules, thresholds and pre-processing executed locally.
Need to connect ADVAIT, TASM2M, SCADA, historian, ERP or CMMS.
Standardized northbound interfaces — one WP500 feeds multiple consumers without re-engineering.
Need for scalable architecture across plants and OEM machines.
Identical platform per site / per machine — fleet-friendly configuration and lifecycle model.

FAQ

WP500 Edge-Enabled RTU — common questions.

For specifics on a particular asset or plant, request the Architecture Assessment above.
What is an edge-enabled RTU?
An edge-enabled RTU is an industrial Remote Terminal Unit that also runs local compute at the gateway. Instead of just polling field devices and forwarding raw data, it normalizes, time-stamps, buffers and can pre-process data locally — and then forwards securely to SCADA, ADVAIT, TASM2M, historian, cloud, ERP or CMMS over standardized protocols.
How is WP500 different from a normal RTU?
WP500 combines RTU-class field connectivity with a Linux edge-compute layer, multi-protocol conversion (Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, MQTT, IEC 61850, IEC 104, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, BACnet) and a security stack engineered to IEC 62443-4-2 — secure boot, SE050 secure element, TLS, firewall and IPS. It is positioned as both an RTU and an OT/IT edge gateway.
Can WP500 connect PLCs and machines to cloud?
Yes. WP500 polls PLCs, CNCs, machines, meters and sensors over their native protocols and forwards normalized data northbound over MQTT/TLS, HTTPS or OPC UA — to private cloud, public cloud, ADVAIT or TASM2M. Edge buffering preserves data through WAN outages.
Can WP500 support brownfield modernization?
Yes. WP500 is explicitly positioned for brownfield modernization. It coexists with existing PLC, SCADA and DCS systems and adds a secure data layer alongside them — no rip-and-replace of installed control infrastructure.
Can WP500 be used for condition monitoring?
Yes. WP500 acts as the condition-monitoring gateway — collecting vibration, temperature, current, run-hours and OEM controller data from rotating equipment and forwarding to condition-monitoring suites, ADVAIT analytics and CMMS workflows.
Which protocols can WP500 support?
WP500 supports multiple industrial protocols including Modbus (RTU / TCP), DNP3, OPC UA, MQTT, IEC 61850, IEC 104, PROFIBUS, PROFINET and BACnet, as documented in the WP500 product source. The exact protocol set per deployment is confirmed during the architecture assessment.
How does WP500 improve OT/IT security?
WP500 is engineered as a boundary node between OT and IT. It enforces zone-based segmentation, runs an on-device firewall and IPS, anchors identity in the EdgeLock SE050 secure element, verifies firmware via secure boot and encrypts northbound traffic with TLS — all aligned to IEC 62443-4-2 product-side requirements.
How can TAS support implementation?
Beyond the WP500 hardware, TAS supports end-to-end edge implementation — IIoT data collection, embedded engineering, SCADA & automation, ADVAIT dashboards, TASM2M telemetry, condition-monitoring workflows and Industry 4.0 consulting. Request an OT-to-IT Edge Architecture Assessment to engage.
